Wow. Really. Wow. The fair is quite an experience. Yesterday, for work, we went to the fair. That's how big of a deal it is here. We were required to go. We got paid to go (not just our salary, but also, canned food to get in cheaper, and $$ for food and rides).
So what does the Texas fair have to offer that other fairs don't. Well, if you are comparing it to the Holy of Name of Jesus Fall Festival, then the Texas fair offers about 100,000 more sq. ft. It has it's own park that is paved and nice. I heard someone comment that they didn't see a single cigarette butt on the ground. At a fair! They offer many things such as: prize animals for your viewing (just like in Charlotte's Web), rides, a gigantic ferris wheel, a butter sculpture (yes, the yellow kind you put on toast) and a bird show.
Here is me and the butter sculpture!

But what separates the Texas fair the most is not the $13,000 goat or the free ice cream we got at the dairy stand. It's the variety of fried food they offer. I'm not talking about funnel cakes. Sure they have those, but they are so elementary kid compared to the goods I saw yesterday. This year's winner of the best fried item (in the Dallas Morning News - our leading newspaper) was the fried cookie dough. I was afraid to try it because I saw it and it looked like brown mush. You can also try fried coke, dr. pepper (people are crazy about dp here) and fried latte. Apparently they pour the liquid into flour, roll it into a ball and drop it in. Essentially you are eating a coke/dr. pepper/latte flavored doughnut hole. I've heard they aren't very good, so I did not waste my coupons on any of those.
The three things worthy of my coupon usage were:
1. A Fletcher's Corny Dog - 7 coupons - apparently the best ever. It was really good, a little too corn bready for my taste, and I couldn't get enough mustard on it.
2. Fried Oreos - 3 for 8 coupons - I was so excited about these and was so disappointed. They had too much batter on them, taking away from the oreo flavor. They were basically an oreo inside of a doughnut hole.
3. Fried Snickers bar - 8 coupons - again, battered and fried - the batter was thinner on the snickers than on the oreo and the first bite was incredible. It was warm and the chocolate and caramel kind of poured out when I cut in. But it cooled off almost immediately and then I passed it on for others to try.
Erynn is holding the Fried Snickers and I have the Fried Oreo!!!

Needless to say - if you are on a diet - the fair is not the place for you! We had a great time walking around, people watching - there were a lot of interesting people there, and taking pictures. I don't think I'll go back again. Not because I didn't have a good time, but because it is REALLY expensive.
