My sweet little boy. One year ago your dad and I sent off all our friends to Oklahoma, exclaiming quite confidently there was no way you'd make an appearance this weekend. What first babies are born on their due date?
At 5:30, we decided to take the pups to the dog park, to get them out of the house and for me to walk around a little. After a couple laps, I let your dad know that I was having contractions, and that they seemed a little different, so we headed home. At 8pm, we timed them and they were definitely getting closer and more consistent. We called the doctor at 9:30pm and headed to the hospital.
The most fun was that we had no idea who was inside me. We didn't know if you were a boy or a girl and we had no idea what you would be like.
At 3:59am on Oct. 19th, 2008 (your due date) - there you were.
In the past year, you have grown up SO much. You've learned to crawl and almost walk (you've taken 1 step!). You've more than doubled in size. You point and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk. You LOVE to play by yourself or with your friends from playgroup. You LOVE your daddy and make my heart melt when you reach for him and then bury your head into his chest. You are great with strangers and almost never cry when we take you to the nursery at church. You like the dogs, but seem like you could take them or leave them - one day you'll love them! You aren't allowed to play with the remote control, though you find it irresistible. Your favorite food is gold fish crackers (and maybe now chocolate cake), and you've just started to drink whole milk. You are the cutest dancer and seem to really love music. You have a blankie that your grandma Netzer made you and I'm not sure you would go to sleep without it. There is a rhino on our mantle that you are crazy about. The moment you walk into the living room you point at it and can't wait to touch it. You have 6 teeth and are working on 2 more.
A lot will happen before your second birthday. You'll be heading to Florida...twice. You'll make your first trip to the frozen tundra of Minnesota where you'll get to meet your Great-Grandma Netzer, along with LOTS of aunts, uncles, and cousins. You'll become a big brother - and you are going to be such a GREAT big brother. You'll make another trip to the Pacific Northwest, just to name a few.
Through it all, your daddy and I pray that you will know you are loved, not just by us, but by your Heavenly Father. We pray that you will be a leader and that your heart would lean toward God early in your life. We pray for courage and boldness for you and that one day you will be greatly used by God. We are SO thankful for you and can not imagine our life without you. Thank you for bringing us so much joy! It is a blessing to see your smiles. Happy Birthday sweet boy!
Love,
Mom & Dad

Sweet Brooks,
We have been praying for you since before you were conceived and it is a privilege to watch you grow.
We are praying that God will draw you to Himself, that you would trust Him alone. We pray that you would become the mighty man God is calling you to and that your joy and satisfaction would be in knowing Him.
In the years to come, may your heart be soft towards discipline as your parents faithfully look to God for wisdom in shaping you. We love you and are so grateful to be a part of your life.
Please tell your parents what you told us, that you would prefer to live in Idaho.
Happy Birthday little man!
Much, much love,
The Stobies,
